I.U.L.A. project planned for SheffieldThis proposed pilot project will introduce the game of “Stratego” to the local area. The project has a 10 week project life and will be solely aimed at getting the game noticed and getting people playing. (After this 10 week pilot project…..the new players will be left in the capable hands of the “3 lions Stratego club” who can help there development and introduce them to classic “Stratego”. The I.U.L.A. will
be setting up taster sessions at several locations which will introduce the game
to the general public. Included in this will be lots of promotional material
which will get the game known across the area.
These sessions will then be followed by 6 weekly sessions where the 2006 World Champion and other local stratego players will help players with rules, tactics and strategies. The focus of the project will firmly be on promotion and getting people playing the game. The I.U.L.A. have a £500 grant available to them……..which will help them afford to buy game boards and supplement the cost of their promotional material. One of the aims of this project, is to persuade a retail seller (in this area) to stock the “Stratego" game boards. Currently there are NO retail suppliers of the “Stratego” board game in Sheffield. (the 4th largest city in England) This promotional work will hopefully create a lot of good publicity for the game which will in turn help to attract more people to try the game. The main reason for this small project is to prove that with investment we can raise the profile of the game and increase participation. This small project would then lead on to further projects from the I.U.L.A. and other organisations associated with "Stratego".
The 3
Lions Stratego Club has a planned project for Summer 07'
This project planned by the "3 Lions Stratego Club" is similar to the I.U.L.A. project but on a much larger scale and solely concentrating on classic “Stratego”. This project would hopefully be funded by the lotteries “Awards for All” fund which help clubs and community groups with funding. I can not mention to many details at this time, but the club do hope to be able to offer "Stratego" coaching and facilities which would allow the club to grow and compete at a high level. The “3 Lions Stratego Club” was set up over 1 year ago and meet regularly to play stratego. The funding would allow them to buy many more game boards and other things needed to host a regular stratego tournament in the UK. This would then help the club, promote the game to a wider audience and maintain a high profile for the game within the area.
The
B.S.A. hope to organise a National Tournament for 2007
The B.S.A. are hoping to be able to organise a National Championships in 2007. Ideas for funding this event are currently being discussed and a final decision will be made about this proposed event........in spring of 2007. The decision about when this event may take place is unsure at this time, although the earliest likely date would be June. A more appropriate time may be October 2007. (so our national championships is scheduled at the same time as other national championships.)
Other projects planned"Classroom
Stratego" The I.U.L.A. hope to be able to follow up their pilot project, with an ambitious project which would be a world first. Bringing "Stratego" into the classroom would help introduce children to the game. This project will be focusing on promoting the educational benefits available from playing “Stratego”. The I.U.L.A. would be aiming to introduce to the game as a recreational activity in “after school clubs” and also schools across the city. Their aims would be to promote the game to children as an enjoyable activity from with which they could learn new skills. They would be encourage to participate in competitions and would be helped with training to achieve a high standard. Another aim of the project, would be to try to help tackle some of the problems involved with bored teenagers who otherwise may involve themselves in criminal or antisocial behaviour. Hopefully with training the I.U.L.A. can give them an excellent pastime activity which would be enjoyable, fun and creative.
Anyone with information about upcoming "Stratego" projects or events within the U.K., please contact us with details and we will get your project onto our site.
